Valentine’s Fashion: Ladies Date Night

If what we see on TV and in the movies is to be believed, February 14th is the day women put on their sexiest lingerie, highest heels, and sultriest makeup. In reality, we’re human beings in a wintry country; it can be tricky to feel hot in the middle of a snowstorm. Luckily, dressing up can be a fun and sexy part of Valentine’s Day.

Start with great support. A well-fitting bra is a year-round staple, and you can use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to get fitted by a professional. A good bra will support your breasts, make your waist look smaller, and improve your posture, so invest in something you feel great in. Don’t worry about looking like a lingerie model. Just choose a colour and style you like, and let your natural confidence do the rest.

Top designers included bold colours and prints, longer hemlines, and fetish-inspired fashion in their spring looks, all of which can be worked into in a great date outfit. Pair a colourful mid-length skirt with a tight top and high boots for a look that not only shows off some curves, but also looks great in the snow. Unusual fabrics like satin or leather can transform an ordinary blouse into something unexpectedly sexy. Feel like an imposter in a dress? Androgynous menswear looks terrific on a female form. If a whole new outfit isn’t in the cards, use accessories! Interesting hair accessories like headbands and barrettes look great in all hair lengths, and are an easy way to glam up your look. Patterned tights or seamed stockings are subtly sexy, and a nifty way of adding texture. A colourful, inexpensive ring, scarf, or bracelet can jazz up an outfit on a moment’s notice, and doesn’t break the bank. Remember that sexiness is less about how much skin you show, and more about how great you feel.

Valentine’s Day outfits usually strive for sexiness, but if you’re most confident in a sweater, don’t feel pressured to wear a low-cut top or tight dress. Style is learning how to use trends to look great: if you look smashing wearing all black, or a miniskirt, go ahead! Whatever you end up wearing, whether it’s sweatpants or a minidress, will look best if you feel great about it.
