Up & Coming is a brand spankin’ new magazine out of Toronto, billing itself as a “quarterly erotic art and lifestyle magazine featuring mostly cerebral, entirely tasteful essays, photo spreads, and fine smut for adults.” With those lofty goals, U&C is releasing – no pun intended – their first issue out into the world this spring, and they’re holding a suitably sexy launch party to celebrate.
On March 18, Oasis Aqualounge will play host to U&C’s Issue #1 Launch Party. U&C encourages attendees to bring bathing suits (or birthday suits) to take full advantage of the wet ‘n’ wild venue. If you’re planning to stay fully clothed, there will be plenty to see and do. Food for the eyes (and the belly) will be provided by Frostitution and The Brockton General’s chef Alex Feswick, while The [Matrix] Projects will project manipulated images that draw on “the magnetic and mathematical systems of computers.” High-brow? Sure. But tinged with a healthy dose of sweaty, low-brow fun, like the live sex show at 10:30 featuring porn stars Jezebel and Malcolm XXX. Kinksters can can get frisky with Dungeon Mistress Elliott Andre Valentino, and DJ Young Adult will help keep the sexy atmosphere groovy by spinning slow jams and sexy beats for the literati.
Full disclosure: I’m a contributor for this issue, along with photographer Bruce La Bruce, local trans- and queer-activist Lexi Tronic, the aforementioned [Matrix] Projects, filmmaker and installation artist Noam Gonick, and many more. I’ve been to magazine launch parties before, and they can be dull; somehow, I have a feeling that isn’t a concern for Up & Coming. Interested in how that live sex show is going to go down? Me too! xoxoamore will provide you with a behind-the-scenes peek at the Oasis’ special charms. Check back next week to read my post about Up & Coming’s party night. I can’t wait to peruse the first issue, check out the sex show, and help a local magazine pop their in-print cherry with a sexy night out.
