Ever heard of the Magic Banana? It’s an innovative new kegel exerciser on the market right now. Sure, it might have a funny name, but don’t judge this toy but that alone. Originally featured on hit tv show Dragon’s Den, the Magic Banana is meant to do so much more than your typical kegel balls and truly helps stimulate your PC muscles and offer more control and sensation in your sex life.
Not familiar with kegel exercisers? Compared to vibrators and dildos, kegel exercisers offer a more simplistic solution to stimulating your sex drive by helping to strengthen the PC muscles and, by doing so, help pin point your G-spot. Of course, you can do that without a kegel exerciser, but they do serve as a helpful aid and offer a little more sensation than muscles alone. Kegel exercisers like the Magic Banana can help boost your sexual confidence, become more aware of your body and accentuate orgasms by isolating your most erogenous zone/s. If you’re looking for a starter toy for sexual exploration or looking to experiment with new and different sensations this just might be for you.
What makes the Magic Banana so different from other kegel exercisers like kegel balls is the amount of PC muscle stimulation. Typically, kegel balls offer a limited amount of muscle stimulation because of their discreet size. They help flex and pin point but with something like the Magic Banana that stimulation is greatly intensified because of the toy’s size. While this toy isn’t discreet it serves its purpose in some very amazing ways, but taking everything you love about kegel balls and intensifies that. Pair the Magic Banana with a more discreet exerciser to-go and you have a lovely combination!
I had the opportunity to speak with Janeson Rayne, the creator of this cool new toy. She walks us through its basic features, inspiration and challenges along the way. Check out the Magic Banana web site for more information.
Also stay tuned for my review of the Magic Banana where I tell you about the ins and outs of this unique new toy!
Erika Szabo: The Magic Banana is a unique, unassuming new kegel exerciser, what inspired and motivated you to create it?
Janeson Rayne: To put it simply, curiosity and a deep thirst for self-awareness were the inspirations, while joy was the motivation. I didn’t exactly realize just how much joy was involved in the beginning, but when I think of things like feeling more comfortable in our bodies, understanding ourselves, the geography of self-awareness, and gaining knowledge and wisdom about how your body responds sexually so you can keep working your own edge. Wherever you are experience-wise, having greater muscle control makes for untold joys in so many ways!
These attributes all have joy in common – true joy. That’s why we say explore happiness within!
ES: The Magic Banana is getting a lot of praise for its intuitive, creative yet minimalist design. How did you decide that this was going to be the design for the toy?
JR: It was an intuitive thing. I got the resistance loop aspect right away, the handle, however, was a different story – I started making early prototypes 30 years ago until I arrived at the loop design. About 14 years ago I shared variations on the loop design with willing friends who shared their feedback to complement my own learnings. I made them by hand – the curve had to be hand-crafted, and the handles required incredible precision, so it was a very labour-intensive process. I shared these early Bananas with over 5000 women and got the most amazing feedback! The new design we are launching now is the result of a collaboration with an international design team – the handle is an ergonomic work of art – and we are ready to bring this product to the world!
ES: What was it like marketing the Magic Banana to people? Did this prove to be a big challenge for you?
JR: When describing the Magic Banana the tone is elegant and respectful, with a balance of whimsy and intelligent playfulness.
Our goal is to be inclusive and have our audience feel comfortable with everything they read. We avoid words that conjure the adult industry – likewise, we avoid words that sound too clinical and push women further away from their bodies and themselves. Most importantly, however, we never threaten women or speak of conditions that they may be fearful of getting. Empowerment is near impossible in an environment of fear.
We want our words to lead women to think of their bodies as beautiful and worthy of exploration and understanding – which is hard to do from a place of emotional deficit. The other critical reason for not including these words is that it’s really difficult to think about pleasure after they’ve been used to describe the body.
Our messaging is always balanced as the Magic Banana really delivers both therapeutic and pleasurable benefits.
ES: Sexual wellness is a very important mandate for you. What does that mean to you and how do you bring sexual wellness into your own personal life? What would you recommend to others looking for that sense of wellness?
JR: There are too many products in the world that play on women’s sensitivities and fears – we made a conscious decision that the Magic Banana would not be one of them. The core values that are now a part of our story, and expressed here, were uncovered on the journey to understand why it’s important to understand unfolded.
Throughout my life, the Magic Banana has been part of the journey. From exploring and getting to know my body; bringing awareness to my muscles, my breathe, and my body’s sexual responses; helping me feel more comfortable in my body; preparing for pregnancy and delivery; through many years of being a single mom; menopause and, eventually, helping to make a more intimate connection with my partner.
Ultimately sexual wellness – and strong core – muscles lead to confidence both in and out of the bedroom.
ES: What would you recommend to someone who has never used the Magic Banana but is interested in trying it out?
JR: Kegel exercises can be challenging for women who have never done them before, as the muscles can be hard to isolate – the Magic Banana helps women relax and feel confident, knowing that the exact muscles they need to be engaging are automatically being engaged – and thus begins awareness … self-awareness and focus on the region. It’s important that women be patient with themselves when they first start using it – as it will likely feel different than anything they’ve experienced before. With time and exploration it’s possible to engage these muscles and experience a lot of pleasure while strengthening.
ES: What’s the advantage of using the Magic Banana over kegel balls? What can the Magic Banana do that kegel balls cannot?
JR: There are lots of products on the market that are either for strengthening (kegels) or for pleasure – there are very few products that do both extremely well. It’s one of the great joys in using the Magic Banana – it’s the only product like this where there is an incentive for doing your workout!
