Sex 101: Penis Pumping

There are several  reasons to use a penis pump. Some guys use it to help attain an erection when dealing with erectile dysfunction, some guys use it as part of a work out. Others use one over an extended period of time, to enlarge the penis (some to rather extreme proportions), while other guys just like to use it because, well, it feels great! If used with patience and a little bit of practice a penis pump can be a great way of adding something new, different, and lots of fun to your sex life — be it alone or with a partner.

When choosing a pump there a few important things to remember. First off, spending the extra money and choosing a pump that has a pressure gauge will take most of the guess work out of pumping when finding a pressure that is optimal. Also, when choosing a cylinder it’s possible to buy one that is part of an interchangeable system, where one could also get nipple, clitoral and other pumping attachments (thats right, pumping is not just for boys). Aside from the main pieces of the cylinder and the pump itself there a few other important accessories that will not only make pumping more comfortable, but also more enjoyable.

Most pumps come with a silicone sleeve that fits over the end of the cylinder and help create a seal at the base of the penis. I would recommend, especially for the beginner pumper, a silicone donut. It will help provide some padding between cylinder and the pelvic region, providing altogether better comfort.

Next comes the most important thing aside from the pump itself:  the grease, if you will. This will help limit the possibility of injury and keep everything smooth. Most pumps will come with some lube, which helps to get your penis in through the sleeve or donut and help keep things nice and sealed once the pumping starts. While you can use any lube you like, consider investing in a good penis conditioner — this will help keep your penis moisturized, slick and will prevent injuries related to over-pumping. Please keep in mind that regardless of how much lubrication one uses there is still a risk of over-pumping.

Now that you have all the important parts and accessories for pumping, we can get started. One of the most important things when getting ready for a pump session is giving yourself the time. Penis pumping should never be rushed. Rushing can lead to problems and injury. Before beginning it is also important to note that having little to no pubic hair will help produce a better seal between the cylinder and your privates. So if you haven’t already, go trim or give it a good clean shave. Make sure you are comfortable and have all that you require within easy reach (as with everything previously mentioned, I would also recommend a small hand towel to remove access lubrication).

Using a liberal amount of lubrication, begin to massage your penis, balls and genital area. Not only does this feel great, but it will help give a good coating of your chosen lubricant and help prepare the penis for being expanded. After massaging for about 5 minutes and everything is good and slick, put some lubricant around the donut or sleeve (attached to the cylinder at this point) and slide your penis in. You may need to activate the release valve on your pump to release air from inside the cylinder. Once your fully in the cylinder and the donut or sleeve is firmly against your pelvic area you can begin pumping.

If you have a pressure gauge you can see the needle rise with every pump and you can feel the pressure rise in the cylinder. With every pump not only will you see your penis get bigger, but it will start to feel harder as well. If at any point it starts to hurt STOP pumping and press the release valve to let air back into the cylinder. As you keep pumping it, you will start to feel a slight discomfort, this is where you want to stop pumping and hold.

As you pump out more air from the cylinder it will force more blood into the penis, causing a bigger and harder erection. So once you’ve reached a point where it is slightly uncomfortable, stop pumping and take note where the needle is on the pressure gauge (when I first started pumping the gauge would read 20 cm Hg or 8 in Hg).

Now that you have reached a good vacuum, there are several things you can do. You can slightly tug on the cylinder, this causes the pressure inside the cylinder to jump a little and provide a a truly unique feeling that only pumping can provide. One could also release the pressure inside and pump back up to optimal pressure. At this point since you are not pumping for any substantial gains in size, it comes down to what you like. Just remember to occasionally remove  the cylinder and continue to reapply your lube or conditioner as your pumping. This is also a good time to massage your penis and enjoy a little manual masturbation during your session.

When first starting out, you may want to limit your pumping session to 20-30 mins. As your penis becomes more accustomed to pumping you can add more time and increase the optimal pressure when pumping. If you’re looking for some substantial gains in size, you may need to consider using pumping as part of a workout that includes penis exercises and regular stretching. This would include exercises like jelqing (a milking-like motion, starting at the base of the penis) and Kegel exercises (contracting ones pubococcygeus muscle), just to name a few.

Not only does pumping feel good it can be a lot of fun solo. It can also be a great way to start some foreplay before a sexual encounter with your partner. Once you know the basics, grab your favourite adult film and/or your partner/s (if you have more then one), sit back, lube up and enjoy a good pumping session.
